Big-Island Level Crossing System
Very basic crossing made up of a large island circuit with one sensor at each end
The distance from the crossing to the sensors is based on train speed
When the island is occupied, the signals come on, and optionally, barriers are activated
The “big-island” scheme is simple and keeps the signals on as long as the island is occupied
If the train stops, there is no timeouts and the signals flash until train is goneThe Big Island approach requires that the train clear the island before the crossing is reset

The Big Island Crossing may include additional features, such as:
The Evaluator can be equipped with a connection to the Control Centre of the Operator and/or Maintenance Supplier
The Control Centre receives real-time data about the status of the Level Crossing
The Control Centre can activate the Level Crossing remotely
The Evaluator can be equipped with an Event Recorder to record all operation
All recorded data can be accessed remotely and wirelessly
Optionally a White Light may be installed for the Train Driver alongside the track, signalling the status of the crossing. If the white light is on, it's ok for the train to cross the road. If white light is off, then train must stop, blow the horn and advance when crossing is clear
The Crossing can be either powered by solar power, wind power or by the electrical grid.
