Allways. Well. Informed.

Passenger Information Systems

Passenger information systems are the key communication link between train operators and passengers. The requirements, expectations and demands from passengers are constantly increasing, legislations becoming stricter, and consequently modern information systems need to be extremely flexible to adapt to these requirements.

Operators have to provide not only accurate and current information on arrival and departure times, but as well in real-time! In addtion to that information about weather forecasts, next stop, connection possibilities etc. are expected to make journeys easier, more flexible and an enjoyable experience.

Passengers are the paying customers of operators, being them either private or public. Consequently they expect to receive quality and comfort for the paid price, not only being transferred from A to B. Waiting passengers expect to find real-time information about the arrival of the next train at the station. When on the train, they also want to have precise information about their current location. Passengers visually impaired should also be provided with information in alternative formats, like audible announcements.

Meanwhile technology has advanced to such an extend that information can be displayed in many different ways. It can be either displayed on fixed installed LED and/or LCD displays in the vehicles, or transmitted to every passenger's mobile devices. Light rail vehicles, trams, metros, and commuter trains in large metropolitan areas require dynamic line maps which automatically indicate next stops and let passagengers feel comfortable in unfamiliar environments at all times.

Passenger Information Systems, now combined with Public Address will not disappear and need to fulfill the latest requirements for impaired people (visually and auditory) to guarantee accurate information at all times, combining visual signs with the corresponding audio information, preferrably fully automated with the help of a positioning system. This information will also be carried to mobile devices, like smartphones and tablets and make travel experience even more pleasant.

Adopting a passenger information solution which is streamlined to provide passengers the most relevant information in a very simple and straightforward format, is the best way to keep the paying passengers happy. The return on investment is guaranteed!
